SanDisk Licenses Impinj Embedded Cores
Staff Reporter -- Electronic News, 6/19/2006
Flash data card giant SanDisk Corp has inked a licensing agreement with fabless semiconductor IP company Impinj Inc., the companies announced today.
SanDisk will integrate Impinj's AEON family of embeddable cores, which provides rewriteable nonvolatile memory (NVM) technology in logic CMOS manufacturing, into its products.
“Available in the same cost-effective semiconductor processes used to manufacture SanDisk's portable device's control chips, Impinj's AEON NVM will be directly integrated into SanDisk products, such as the flash memory cards which are embedded into many of today's mobile handsets,” Geoff Gongwer, senior director of ASIC development at SanDisk, said in a statement.
“Impinj's AEON NVM allows us to address on-chip NVM requirements, supporting advanced features on our most popular storage products now and in the future,” he added.
Larry Morrell, VP of IP products at Impinj concluded, “Working together, SanDisk and Impinj will deliver storage products that multiple industries demand.”
