Former Intel Exec Joins ClearSpeed as COO
Staff Reporter -- Electronic News, 8/29/2006
Coprocessor maker ClearSpeed Technology has named a former Intel executive as its new COO.
In his new role Stephen McKinnon, a 25-year veteran of the semiconductor industry, will lead the continued build out of ClearSpeed’s “customer facing organization” which includes sales, business development, outbound marketing and technical customer support and solutions.
ClearSpeed’s plan all along has been to offer its coprocessors as a low-power, high performance solution to enhance computing alongside processors from companies including Intel and AMD. The win of an Intel executive to run the sales organization is surely a move to accelerate that goal.
ClearSpeed has recently won deals with IBM, AMD, and the Tokyo Institute of Technology.
McKinnon most recently served as Intel’s Director of World Wide Solution Sales, where he created the foundation and drove the expansion of the sales organization in support of Intel’s emerging corporate platform strategy. He will be working out of ClearSpeed’s office in San Jose, Calif.
This growing customer-facing organization within ClearSpeed is based in San Jose, Calif. so that it can support a customer and partner base from the heart of Silicon Valley, the company said in a statement.
“Stephen brings highly relevant experience as we increase our customer focus and build out our capability,” said Tom Beese, ClearSpeed CEO, in a statement. “We are very pleased to have recruited such a talented executive during this time of significant growth.”
“ClearSpeed has a unique combination of fundamental technology differentiation together with a clear and sustainable business proposition,” McKinnon said. “With such a robust corporate foundation to build on, it’s exciting to join such a talented team focused on delivering complete solutions to our target market.”
ClearSpeed’s advanced multi-threaded array processing technology provides the capability to accelerate data-intensive applications at extremely low power. Products include chips, boards, software tools, applications and support. The company first unveiled its technology at the In-Stat Microprocessor Forum in 2003.
