LXI scopes lose face

-- Test & Measurement World, 11/2/2006 7:06:00 AM

Agilent's DSO6000L series of rack-mount oscilloscopes didn't actually lose their faces—they never had faces at all. Designed for production-system use, the DSO6000L series consists of three four-channel models with different bandwidths: 100 MHz (DSO6014L), 500 MHz (DSO6054L), and 1 GHz (DSO6104L). The DSO6014L samples at 2 Gsamples per channel. The other two models let you double sample rate when using two channels only. Each unit consumes just 1U of rack space.

The front panels of the 6000L Series contain the four probe inputs and a USB port where you can insert a fash drive to store test data. Although they lack a typical user interface, the DSO6000L Series are accessible throuth USB, Ethernet (Class C compliant), and IEEE 488 ports. They're 100% software compatible with Agilent's MSO/DSO6000 Series benchtop scopes. You can replace and DSO6000 scope with a DSO6000L model and save rack space without changing any code. For software support, the 6000L Series comes with Agilent's I/O Library Suite version 14.2, IVI-COM, IVI-C, and LabView drivers. Thus, it's compatible with Visual Basic, C/C++, Agilent Vee, and LabView.

Because engineers like to have a "manual" user interface, especially when developing a test rack, you can use the LAN port and control the scope through a Web browser. In addition, the DSO6000L series have an XGA video output, which lets you see waveforms as though the scope had a front-panel display.

Sometimes, you need to keep your test setups secure so that nobody can read how you ran them. With option SEC, you can ensure that scope setups are stored in volatile memory only. When you power down a DSO6000L, it won't retain setup information. This option, which must be factory installed, is available for no additional cost.
