LONG BEACH, CA. The Measurement Science Conference (www.msc-conf.com), which is being held this week in Long Beach, CA, opened its exhibition hall on Wednesday, a day earlier than in previous years. In the past, the exhibits did not open until Thursday, and attendees who came for the NIST seminars on Monday and Tuesday and the workshops on Wednesday and then left would miss the Thursday and Friday technical session and exhibits.

A quick trip through the exhibit hall uncovered several exhibitors who are new this year. Exfo is showing its calibration system for optical instruments. Power-supply maker Lambda is also making its first MSC appearance. Last-minute addition Keithley Instruments is displaying its source-measure unit and nanovoltmeter. Tektronix has made an appearance with several oscilloscopes. In its booth, Rohde & Schwarz is exhibiting RF signal sources used for calibrating spectrum analyzers. New company Ohm Labs, a spinoff from Process labs, is displaying a line of precision resistors.
Yet, the traditional MSC exhibitors are also in attendence. Fluke, with the largest booth in the hall, is showing several temperature wells (one with 0.001°C resolution), its triple-point of water cell, and other temperature-calibration equipment. The company's exhibit also includes calibrators for oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers, a rubidium frequency reference, a waveform generator, and a new resistance source for calibrating electrical safety (hipot) testers.
Agilent Technologies is exhibiting several instruments including digital multimeters, vector-network analyzers, and a micro ohmmeter. Yokogawa, which has exhibited at MSC in recent years, is displaying its line of oscilloscopes and power analyzers.
IET Labs is demonstrating a line of resistance decade boxes and resistance instruments that it recently acquired from Tegam. Tegam is also in the hall, featuring a PXI instrumentation amplifier and an RF power meter.
Isotech is exhibiting its line of temperature standards and thermometery bridges. Ametek is displaying temperature calibrators, and Andeen-Hagerling is demonstrating capacitance meters.
On the software front, several companies are demonstrating software for performing calibrations and for instrument management: Edison Metrology, Fluke, IndySoft, Northrop Grumman, OneRedX Software, and SanSueB Software.
