Where has VB gone?

Recently, I received a review copy of a book called "Visual Basic 2005: .NET Insight for Classic VB Programmers." I hesitate to review it because the book made me wonder if anyone uses VB for developing test applications anymore.

Before .NET, I would get a regular flow of contributed articles that shows readers how to use VB in a test application. Articles such as "Make a Strip-Chart Recorder in Excel" provided source code and descriptions of useful VB applications.

In December 2002, we published "Should you switch to VB .NET?" and I dare say, the answer has been "no." As I travel around to various companies and speak with readers, I never hear a word about VB anymore. I suspect that Microsoft's .NET, which transformed VB into a different language from VB6, killed it as a test-development language because the transition to VB .NET meant rewriting too much code.

Am I wrong? Are test engineers still using VB? If you still use VB, I'd like to know. If you've abandonded VB, tell me why. Send e-mail to m.rowe@tmworld.com.
